How to Iron Your Fusepix Beads: Our Step-by-Step Process

A lot of you have asked how we get such a smooth, even melt. Here's exactly how we do it — the same process we use for every design that leaves our studio.

Getting a clean melt comes down to preparation and patience. Before we even pick up the iron, we make sure every bead is sitting flat and even — the quality of your beads matters more than most people realise. Beads that aren't uniform in shape will show in the final melt, so starting with good-quality beads really does make all the difference.

1.Tape the design

Tear a piece of tape slightly larger than the board. Place it down confidently and in one motion — hesitating can pull beads up and shift the design. Once it's on, press it flat with something firm to make sure everything is secure.

2.Lift and flip carefully

Hold the design steady with one hand while you peel it away from the board — this stops it from shifting. Then flip it onto a flat surface like baking paper or the back of a book. Don't try to lift the design by the tape alone. Fold any excess tape out of the way so it doesn't stick during ironing.

3.Iron evenly with controlled heat

Preheat your iron to high. We use a book underneath to help control the heat and keep things even. Iron one area for a short time, then move to another — rotating as you go so no single spot gets too hot. You'll notice the surface start to change as it begins to melt.

4.Check the melt against the light

Flip the design over, remove the tape, and hold it up to the light. If you can still see holes, it needs a little more time. Once the melt looks even and complete, you're ready for the next step.

5.Press and cool

Place the design under something heavy and let it cool for about three minutes. This flattens everything out and gives you that smooth, finished result. Once it's cooled, you're done.

Still getting uneven results? Sometimes it helps to see the process in action rather than read through it. Search fusepix shop on TikTok, Instagram, or YouTube — we've got videos walking through every step so you can follow along visually.
